It’s almost time friends! My #friendshipbloomsquilt pattern launches Feb 14th 🌸. My friend @tiacurtisquilts quilted it for me last week and it just arrived today 📦. I’m so in love with this quilting design she used. Now to add on the binding and and get some photos for the quilt pattern cover 📸.

This quilt pattern will come in 4 sizes and 3 colorway options. Plus it has video tutorials to show you how to make the block as well as the cute little applique flowers that you sew on top of the blocks.

This quilt will be hanging at Quilt Con @themqg in the Benartex booth so you can see their beautiful Superior Solids collection. @benartex_fabrics

It was a great week doing demos in the King Quilter Sit Down in the @sewingmachinesplusdotcom booth this week @road2ca in Ontario, California 🧵. I have this machine at home and have been practicing for the past year. I still can’t do feathers well but while doing demos, I came up with this fun little flower that I’m adoring 🌸. I was super proud of all the people who stopped by and tried for the first time! 👏🏼 🥰.

I don’t normally like thimbles because I have long fingernails and am not willing to cut them 🙃. But I needed one because I’m hand quilting my first big quilt. I want to try it once to see what it’s like, if I enjoy it and to have experienced it. Have you?

If you are like me and didn’t start quilting until your 40s, did you ever imagine this would be you now? Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined this would be a second business and a craft I love. And one I am not ashamed of in the least. It’s funny because often when I run into people from my past, they are like “You what? Quilting… like for grandmas?” .

I shocked myself honestly. I was never crafty in elementary or high school yet I often wish I had found quilting back then. I would have an extra 20 years to have enjoyed quilting. Cutting up fabric and turning it into something beautiful, often to gift to others. 💝 One old friend recently told me she made 3 quilts in high school but never told any of us because it wasn’t ‘cool’. I’m like “ Friend, get out the machine because if you loved it, it’s cool”.

Welcome to Riverglen in the winter ❄️. This is here in the Arkansas Ouachita National Forest on the river. Dad was practicing his video skills and sent me this since he’s 10 miles from me and I can’t drive to him to get photos. This is where I grew up. 🏠

The Rustic River House is where my grandparents lived and we just finished turning it into a BNB that will open this month.

Then there is a quilting retreat home where I host quilt retreats. It sleeps 6 inside plus two RV hook ups. The Riverhouse will also serve as a place for more retreat lodging for larger groups. The quilting studio will hold up to 12.

The views are breathtaking from the bluffs and the river ❄️🧡.

Let’s give Dad a round of applause for capturing this one handed while he drove and videoed at the same time ! 👏🏼 😮.

I had my final 16 week hysterectomy checkup yesterday. I’ve healed up nicely 👏🏼. In November, once I was feeling better, I made my surgeon ( also my OBGYN) a ‘thank you’ quilt for taking such skillful care of me. I was able to finally gift it to him yesterday. 💝

You see I was one of those super nervous patients ( never had surgery before) and I had some very specific wishes on the procedure. He had such wonderful bedside manner, always made me feel confident in his abilities and took all the time needed to answer all my questions 🤪. His nurse Sarah also went above and beyond and text me before and after the operation keeping the lines of communication open. I couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful care. 👨‍⚕️ 👩‍⚕️

If you need an expert Dr who can perform a robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy ( removing a fibroid filled uterus 6x its normal size) using the Di Vinci robot, Dr. Brian Fuller of @naturalstate.obgyn in Conway, Arkansas is your guy. So worth the 2 hr drive each way for it all. 🙏

This pattern has NO pieced curves but rather a simple appliqué flower using a template and Heat & Bond fusible interfacing. You sew it on top of your finished blocks. Testers began this weekend and I can’t wait to see their versions ( One Block, Two Block and Scrappy plus 4 sizes).

I’m looking back at my makes for 2024 and am surprised at how much I was able to do considering I basically went on a break from making from Sept- Dec due to my hysterectomy. As a recap, I released 3 quilt patterns:

1) Posy Chain
2) Fray Boxes
3) Arctic Stars ( can you tell it was my favorite- I made four versions 😆)

Then 6 other fun makes that were purely for fun or want:

1) A Diva Wallet
2) A retreat notions caddy set
3) Hexie & Jewel Petal EPP Mug Rugs
4) A Garden Bucket Caddy( I took a local Master Gardner online course to learn more about 🌺 )
5) Quilt Cruise Bunting
6) Hysterectomy Pillow and Lava Sand Heating Pad ( those are free tutorials on my blog)

While the latter 6 were not income generators, they brought me joy to make because I made them as and when I wanted. I learned last year that scheduling in time for ‘just for fun’ sewing is vital to keeping the joy since my hobby is now a business.🧡

As I reflect on this beautiful craft, I am thankful that it exists, that I have the physical health to do it as well as a lovely space to do it in. I’m thankful that I have all of you in this community to do it with and the connection it brings. Quilting brings me so much joy- here’s to welcoming more into the Quiltiverse with us in 2025 🙌🏻. We finally finished the last project for a ‘messy’ corner of my studio ( old RV garage formerly). I ran out of storage for my products and supplies early this year so this organization project is something I’ve really needed and been excited about. There is something so calming about having a cleaned organized quilting studio to start a new year 🗓️ .

Do you sit or stand when piecing your quilts or sewing in general? I do both thanks to my Eleanor motorized sewing table from @arrowsewing . I notice that I have less hip pain when I rotate standing and sitting. Plus I am walking back and forth to the cutting station, pressing station and sewing machine regularly so standing is easier when I’m working on a quilty project that requires multiple steps. My Juki fits perfectly in this table with the insert and very little vibration.

Happy first day of winter quilty friends ❄️! Swapped out the doorway entry seasonal wall quilt recently. Ever make paper snowflakes in school? A few years ago I did that but with white fabric… which led to this experience . Then I quilted it with my #babylocksashiko for a special touch. I hope it’s sunny there like it is here in Arkansas. ☀️
