Are you participating in the #mqgminiswap2025 put on my @themqg ? I signed up for the first time this year and have been having fun making this modern wall quilt for my swap partner @vkeller1948 . We’ve never met but we get to swap our makes and meet in person at Quilt Con in February 👏🏼.

I love using my @babylocksewing Sashiko for smaller makes like this. It’s gives everything I make a ‘handstitched’ feel in fraction of the time of course. 😉 I’m using 30wt @coatsandclark thread, which my machine loves. Granted this speciality machines only does this one special stitch, I love using it regularly for many of my quilty makes. Are you familiar with this machine?

I’ve named this wall hanging, “Both Worlds”, combining a modern design with the traditional feel of handstiching.

Have you ever hand quilted an entire quilt? I haven’t ( I always machine quilt) but it’s always been a goal after having such admiration for those who have. I even rescue them from flea markets and thrift stores. I want to be able to have experienced this at least once in my life. I’ve been researching how. So two weeks ago, I finally finished piecing the last 5 blocks of this #sassygrannyquilt I started back in 2021. This quilt is 60x70. I’ve decided on this color pearl cotton, have it all basted and in this hoop I found a Goodwill two years ago for $8. Now it’s finally time to use it! I haven’t set a hard deadline for myself but I would like to finished it in 2025. Why? I turn 50 this coming year and think at would be a cool age to say I hand quilted an entire quilt for the first time. 🥹

I had the former in September and this hysterectomy recovery pillow was a lifesaver in protecting my tender belly from my kitties, the seatbelt or when I coughed or sneezed plus it has pockets for an ice or heating pack and to store handy items.

Have you ever tried fabric marbling? When I was at Lucky Star Art Camp @luckystarartcamp a few weeks ago, I took a class with Claire of @temperedeast . She is such a great teacher and I was so happy with the results! I marbled several items, two of them being fat quarters. So I used them to make a quilted tote bag! 🧡 I pulled out some scrap leather for the straps and now I have a tote to match my marbled hat 😉. The process is fascinating 🤯

I’m at @luckystarartcamp here in Texas for 5 wonderful days of creativity and inspiration with 150 other women🌟. I needed a special quilt to use that felt like it belongs here so I decided to make a Lucky Star Camp ‘raw edge appliqué quilt as you go rag quilt’ with flannel backing. Thanks @accuquilt for the perfect star die to make it happen ⭐️. I got everything ready before surgery.

I am giddy over this modified quilted Orbit crossbody bag I made this past week 🟤🤩. I let my imagination run wild and decided to make a Dresden and use cross hatch quilting with variegated thread, which looks best on solids IMO. Since it’s fall, my favorite season, I pulled out my left over Collecting Memories prints from @tilda_usa and this brown Tilda solid. The big stitch quilting has me swooning ☺️.Happy fall yall 🍂

⭐️ I’m driving to @luckystarartcamp next month. It’s an amazing woman’s art camp in rural Texas. I’ve been looking forward to it since back in January when I registered.

Keeping true to the ‘star’ theme, I made some of my #quiltjournalcover before my surgery last month using Accuquilt’s 3 star die to add cute raw edge appliqué stars to each journal. I’ll be taking these with me to camp for others to enjoy. ☺️ Are you a star lover? 🌟What would you make with this die?

Have you ever wanted to learn watercolor? 🎨 This past May I signed up to learn from @alexkincaidart during her watercolor week. While recovering from my hysterectomy last month, it’s been a bright spot since I haven’t been up to quilting quite yet. Last week was all about fall florals ➡️.
I have to say, she is the BEST teacher I’ve ever experienced ( in all courses of any type)!

When I have a choice, I always try to support other small business owners for things that strike my fancy. Their time and resources that go into handmade products always mean more to me. Plus, they are often one of a kind and more beautiful than mass produced items. 🧡. Amber of @alderwoodstudio recently made a small batch of these beautiful pottery quilty mugs ( which sold out in minutes) and I was fortunate to snag this gorgeous blue one. It arrived today just in time to enjoy my afternoon green tea time. 🫖

In case you need a reminder- it’s time to ‘carefully’ change the blade on your rotary cutter quilty friends 😉. I use to have a hard time separating my blades but now I just use a pin 📍. It’s still a slightly scary process but it’s gotta be done 🙃.

Let’s talk quilty organization. I don’t do well with clutter and feel best when everything has a home. I use various @yazziicraft bags .

Earlier this summer I made pillows for each of the beds at our quilting retreat home. To sew the opening closed on them was a bit tricky because they were puffed so full of polyfil. Here’s where a stiletto comes in handy. My favorite is the pink one by @colonialneedleco called the ‘6th Finger Stiletto’ . It has a blunt end ( so you don’t accidentally poke a hole in your fabric) and a sharp end plus the handle has texture so it doesn’t slip when holding it. I had never seen one like this before! It’s my new favorite. 🙌🏻
